Dear Jesus,

Haley recently discovered the movie Aquamarine. I am not sure it was a wise decision to let her watch it. She has been obsessed with being a mermaid ever since. You can ask Heather who had to endure Haley asking her 15 times in the pool the other day if she liked her fins (which are her legs by the way). Quite an imagination she has. Her desire to be a mermaid was so great that she decided she needed to write to Jesus about it. Chad helped her address the envelope. He told her the address for heaven was 7777 Pearly Gate Dr. Heavenly Hills, Heaven. Creative? Yes. Smart? NO. After discovering what was going on when Haley asked for a stamp I gave Chad a "What were you thinking" look and decided I would be the rational parent and explain to Haley that heaven isn't a place we can send mail to and that all we needed to do was to talk to Jesus through our prayers. Haley promptly went upstairs to put the letter under her pillow. Hey the tooth fairy gets them so why not Jesus? I then broke it to her gently that Jesus wasn't going to come get the letter. Her response, "I know Mommy but maybe he has a helper"
The letter read like this...
Dear Jesus,
I love you and I love how you made me but I was wondering if you could turn me into a mermaid. Love, Haley

I decided to get Haley off of being a mermaid, I would tell her how much I would miss her and that I didn't want her to be one.

The next letter to Jesus read....
Dear Jesus,
Just one more thing. Can you make me a mermaid only when I am wet because I don't want to miss my family. Thanks, Haley

After about 3 nights of Haley's disappointment that her letter hadn't been picked up. I couldn't take it anymore so I became Jesus' helper (which I very strongly suspect that that is what Haley meant). Anyway Jesus' helper wrote all about how God gave Haley her imagination so she could pretend to be a mermaid but that He wasn't going to change her at all because He made her very special the way she was. It seemed to do the trick because other than a quick thank you note to Jesus we have dropped the request. The imagination, however still going strong!

I know you don't have time for one more thing but you really should take this story and write a children's book about it. REALLY.

I hope she will still want to show me her mermaid fins. I love her imagination! Way to be Jesus' "helper". You're an awesome mom!!!

Hmmm. I guess it wasn't a good thing then that I asked her if she was still a mermaid today? She did tell me yes, but now not only is she a mermaid (in the water), the BEAUTIFUL ring she's wearing gives her special powers! Pretty amazing to me. She showed me today how she could completely disappear!! All she did was look at the ring which told us to close our eyes for 10 seconds, and POOF when we opened our eyes Haley was NO WHERE TO BE FOUND! Incredible.

Ella's special powers are pretty amazing too, I shouldn't forget to mention!
